12/26/2013 11:00 PMShortly after 1 p.m. yesterday, State Police Troopers responded to a private residence located at 131 Rattling Valley Road in Deep River. Upon arrival, a trooper discovered a female unresponsive. EMS personnel pronounced the female dead at the scene.
The crime scene was secured and troopers initiated a criminal investigation. Troopers interviewed several witnesses at and about the scene and in the neighborhood. Late yesterday afternoon State Police troopers and detectives took a male subject into custody.
The accused is identified as Robert O. Rankin, 22. He has been charged by troopers with murder and is being held by State Police on a $1 million bond. Rankin will be arraigned in Middletown Superior court today. The accused’s last known address is 131 Rattling Valley Road in Deep River.
State Police detectives continue to process the crime scene gathering forensic and physical evidence. No additional suspects are being sought at this time
A post mortem examination of the deceased will be conducted by the Chief State’s Medical Examiners Office to determine the manner and cause of death. The deceased’s identity us being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The criminal investigation is continuing.
