Meet wildlife biologists and interns from the United States Fish & Wildlife Service (USF&WS) and find out the answers to these questions and many more during the special program, Terninology: Birds on Faulkner's Island, at the Henry Whitfield State Museum on Wednesday, August 7 from 10 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 3 pm.
The program will be presented in the museum's education building, a late 19th century barn, which, in August 2013, features the exhibit, Bicentennial Beacon: Faulkner's Island Lighthouse.
Reservations are not required for the program, Terninology: Birds on Faulkner's Island, or the exhibit, Bicentennial Beacon: Faulkner's Island Lighthouse. Admission to the program and the exhibit is included in the regular museum admission price.
The United States Fish & Wildlife Service of the Department of the Interior is the primary agency in the federal government whose mission is to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people. In Connecticut, USF&WS oversees the Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge. It stretches across over 70 miles of the state's coastline and is made up of ten refuge units, including Faulkner's Island in Guilford Harbor.
The Henry Whitfield House, built in 1639, is Connecticut's oldest house, New England's oldest stone house and a National Historic Landmark. It is open May 1 to December 15, Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm. The last tickets are sold at 4:00 pm each day. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and college students, $5 for children ages 6 to 17 and free for those 5 and under. School and group tours are available year round by appointment. The museum is located at 248 Old Whitfield Street in Guilford (exit 58 off I-95). Parking is free.
