Project Graduation's February Fundraisers

February is a big month for Project Gradation Class of 2013, with three fundraising events planned all in an effort to provide a safe and fun-filled night for The Morgan School’s graduating seniors.

The first event on the month kicks off on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Campbell’s Gymnastics, 8 Heritage Park off Route 145 in Clinton. Children are encouraged to attend and enjoy all the activities that the gymnasium has to offer. The first session ($5) is for kids aged one through five beginning at 4 until 5:30 p.m. Session two ($10) is for kids aged 6 to 10 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

“It’s going to be a private party. They’re going to have different stations for the kids, with all the different activities the gym has to offer like the trampoline, balance beams, uneven bars, and bouncy house,” said Project Graduation 2013 Co-chair Jeanne Ayotte. “Everything will be open and available. The cool thing about this is we have asked the future graduates to be chaperones of the kids so I’m really excited about that and the kids love interacting with teenagers…It’s such a good experience for both of them.”

Parents must be present for session one, but can drop off participants for session two.

On Friday, Feb. 8, comedian-hypnotist Jim Spinnato is back by popular demand to entertain residents for the second benefit show for Project Graduation 2013. Spinnato will entertain at 7 p.m. in The Morgan School auditorium. The cost is $10 per person.

The fianl fundraising event of the month is being coordinated with Project Graduation Class of 2015 and will be a Winter Wonderland Adult Dance in the Green Room at the Andrews Memorial Town Hall on Saturday, Feb. 23 from 7 to 11 p.m. Local band The Engine Room will be performing throughout the evening. Funds from this dance (entry is $15) will go toward both 2013 and 2015 Project Graduations.

“All the events are pretty affordable and it’s a nice to get out this time of year. Campbell’s Gym is great for getting the kids out and active since it’s cold outside and it’s the same thing with the hypnotist, who is so hilarious, and the dance, which we’re really excited about doing because it’s a joint adventure with Project Graduation 2015,” said Ayotte. “It’s perfect timing—people want to get out, enjoy themselves, and have fun while fighting the winter blues.”

The Project Graduation Committee has already held a number of fundraising activities and events to help raise money for its surprise graduation celebration. The off-campus venue will be announced in the coming months. Committee members and volunteers have held a visit with Santa, a fundraiser at McDonalds, a Bake Sale on Election Day, and a few other events raising approximately $12,000 out of the total $30,000 needed to pay for the graduation night festivities.

“We’re getting there,” Ayotte said, “but we still have a lot of work to be done.”

Because space is limited, residents must call Ayotte to sign up for the Campbell’s Gymnasium sessions. Residents can show up at the door to attend the two other February events.
