Memorial for Lee Thompson

There will be a memorial service to celebrate Lee Thompson’s life on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Main Street, Essex. Thompson, 79, of Essex, died peacefully at home on the morning of New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31.

Thompson was president of the Essex Board of Trade from about 2003 until 2009. He was a wonderful advocate for all of the businesses in town, as well as supporting the local non-profits and tourism. He owned Essex Coffee and Tea on Main Street until selling it to his manager David several years ago. Thompson also owned Sweet P’s, the favorite ice cream and nautical gift shop. He was most recently the Chairman of the Essex Economic Development Commission.

Thompson was a large presence in town and will be sorely missed by everyone.
