07/02/2012 10:00 AMA Guilford man who police say had been drinking has been arrested after an alleged robbery attempt in which he was injured in a fall from a balcony.
The Hartford Courant reports that Michael Stokes is accused of entering a Branford house on Saturday night while a 77-year-old woman and her 10-year-old grandson hid on the second floor. Other family members were outside watching a fireworks display
Police say Stokes entered the home through a locked screen door, broke several items, stepped onto a small balcony and fell about 35 feet. Officers found Stokes on the ground outside the house.
He was charged with home invasion and other crimes and was treated for his injuries. He's being held on $200,000 bail.
