Torrenti to Run for RTC Chairman

In a Harbor News web exclusive, Old Saybrook resident John Torrenti announced today that he is running for chairman of the Old Saybrook Republican Town Committee (RTC). Election of RTC officers and selection of candidates for state-wide conventions are both on the agenda for this week’s Wednesday, March 28, RTC Meeting at Acton Public Library that begins at 7:30 p.m. Only members of the RTC may vote for RTC officers and for convention representatives, although any Republicans may observe the proceedings.

“I have given careful thought and consideration to things people have said about the need for new RTC leadership. After contacting various members of the RTC and members of the party in the past month or so, I came to the conclusion that there was sufficient support for my candidacy. So I have decided to seek the RTC chairmanship at this week’s officers’ election,” said Torrenti.

Torrenti has previously served for four years as the town’s RTC chairman and was a member of the RTC for 34 years. He also has served as campaign chairman for successful local area Republican campaigns including the 2002 election of State Representative Marilyn Giuliano, three town selectmen campaigns for Michael Pace and Bill Peace and the most recent campaign that saw Carl Fortuna and Scott Giegerich’s election. He also served in statewide Republican Party leadership posts including serving for six years as the 20th Senate District’s elected representative on the Connecticut Republican State Central Committee.
