Town Restoration Committee Dissolved, Another Created

Thirty years ago, a town meeting adopted a resolution giving the Deep River Town Hall Restoration Association authorization for the restoration of the historic Town Hall to the extent that funds became available for that purpose. The association also had the authority to monitor the maintenance, upkeep, restoration and alteration of the building. For the full story, see the Dec. 1 issue of the Valley Courier and go to Zip06.com.

Two weeks ago, another town meeting voted unanimously to rescind that 1981 resolution, and to withdraw all authority granted to the association.

Within the next few minutes, the Nov. 22 special town meeting had unanimously approved creation of a new entity – the Deep River Town Hall Auditorium Restoration Committee. This new committee β€œis authorized to oversee, and to arrange for the completion of the restoration of the Deep River Town Hall auditorium, to the extent that funds are available.”

The change is significant. After three decades, which included several plans for expansion that each met with defeat at town meetings or referendums, the Town Hall has undergone a limited renovation and updating that is expected to be completed within the next month or two. All that will remain to be done is the auditorium.
