Holiday Food Drive Underway

Rev. Morrow and Mike Freda

The holiday food drive conducted jointly with the town of North Haven and the North Haven Congregational Church to benefit the local food bank is underway.

According to Dan Riccio, welfare administrator for the Department of Community Services and Recreation, 52 families received ingredients for a Thanksgiving meal (turkey and the trimmings) last year.

He estimates that the town will distribute 60 or more holiday boxes this year.

Riccio said the town and the church work together to ensure families who need the assistance of a holiday meal receive it.

Riccio, who manages the town's food bank, said overall donations to the food bank have been coming in at a steady pace. He is able to supplement his inventory with items from the Connecticut Food Bank in East Haven, as needed.

But the main focus now is on collecting food for the holiday boxes. The collection will end on Monday, Nov. 14 for Thanksgiving and Monday, Dec. 12 for Christmas.
