Chester Boaters and Dog Rescued from Saybrook Waters

On Sunday, Oct. 16, Sea Tow Central Connecticut rescued four boaters and their dog from rough waters off the jetties in Old Saybrook after responding to a radio call from the Plum Island Ferry, alerting the Coast Guard that a boat was caught in rough water.

Capt. Eric Dussault and Capt. Tyler Bates, both of Sea Tow Central Connecticut, arrived at the scene within five minutes of the call. They found four passengers and a dog walking on top of the rocks along the Jetties. The boaters were from Chester.

Dussault navigated his boat into the calm area of the jetties where he and Capt. Bates were able remove the stranded boaters from the jetties and bring them to shore. Local fire and police were waiting in case medical attention was needed.

The badly damaged vessel sank while Sea Tow was attempting to recover it.

The lesson for boaters, according to Dussault, is to pay close attention to water conditions and not take a small boat out when winds are blowing at 25-30 knots.
