Madison Firemen's Ball Marks 60th Year

Traditions and service are important parts of Madison's character and its sense of community. Chief among those are the all-volunteer Madison Hose Company No. 1 and its annual Firemen's Ball.

The dance, now in its sixtieth year, will be held Friday, Sept. 9 from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Madison Beach Club.

For over 103 years, the Madison Hose Company No. 1 has been providing protective services to the residents and businesses of Madison.

For the past 60 years, the company's chief fundraiser has been its Firemen's Ball, set each year at the Madison Beach Club the weekend after Labor Day. The dance is a tradition. Six decades ago, in recognition of the service the hose company provided to the beach club, its members and the town's permanent and summer residents, the beach club offered the use of its facility. The club closes at the end of the Labor Day weekend.
