Residents Asked to Clear Streets of Motor Vehicles

In the wake of two recent snow storms and a third one on its way, Mayor April Capone Almon and Acting Police Chief Gaetano Nappi are asking residents to clear the streets immediately of all motor vehicles so the town’s Public Works Department can remove the existing mounds of snow, or risk being ticketed and towed.

“We understand the severity of the recent snow storms have made it difficult for residents, particularly those who don’t have access to off-street parking; however, we’re now at a critical point in which we need to clear the streets to regain the full width of the roadways”, said Capone Almon.  “Parking bans were issued and have been in effect since the first snow storm; but unfortunately it hasn’t achieved the results needed to maximize our snow removal efforts.”

Acting Police Chief Gaetano Nappi echoed the same, “No one wants to issue a ticket or a fine, times are tough enough; but now it’s becoming a matter of public safety.  Kids need a safe place to wait for their school buses and motorists need a clear visible sight line”, said Nappi.

“The other concern I have is gaining access to catch basins”, said Capone Almon.  “As the snow begins to melt, it’s imperative the water has a place to go.  “The last thing we need is for water to pool up over the roadways and create a sheet of ice.”

“My office has been inundated with requests, so please help me help you.  I have one of the best Public Works Departments in the state, but they need your help so they can get the job done”, said Capone Almon.
