Brave the Nightmare on Elm Street


You might think you'd be safe aboard a wagon on a festive jaunt through an Old Saybrook field in October. Beware! You never know what crazed maniac might decide to hitch a ride. At the 12th annual Old Saybrook Fire Department Haunted Hayride at Clark Memorial Field, the list of nightmare-inducing frights is long and distinguished. The event continues Thursday, Oct. 22, Friday, Oct. 23, Saturday, Another spooky option is the Kid's Haunted House at the Tanger Outlet Center in Westbrook that runs Thursday, Oct. 22 through Sunday, Oct. 25 and Thursday, Oct. 29 through Saturday, Oct. 31. Well-lit, less-scary "kids' hours" are from 5 to 7 p.m. and "scary hours" are from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children aged 17 and under. All proceeds benefit Westbrook Youth & Family

Oct. 24, Wednesday, Oct. 28, and Friday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. at the field at 210 Elm Street, Old Saybrook. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Bring a can of food for the Shoreline Soup Kitchen and receive $1 off admission. Free shuttle buses leave from Ingham Hill Road and the Old Saybrook Shopping Center.
