A Virtual Tour of New Haven Murals

Kwadwo Adae at New Haven Museum

New Haven Museum will host local visual and public artist Kwadwo Adae for “A Virtual Tour of New Haven Murals,” on Wednesday, May 15, at 6 p.m., preceded by a reception at 5:30 p.m. Register at the New Haven Museum website: www.newhavenmuseum.org/47238-2.

Adae will offer a virtual mural tour of his public-art initiatives throughout New Haven, showing murals he completed in Dixwell, Newhallville, Fair Haven, The Hill, Westville, East Rock, and Downtown New Haven, and discussing their significance. He’ll also highlight the various community partnerships and non-profit organizations that have financially supported the projects. Visitors will also get a glimpse of a proposed future installation in the city, followed by a Q&A.

Adae notes the extensive processes behind the creation of public art are profoundly challenging, inherently messy, and extraordinarily difficult. He adds that it is important for people to be aware of how public space is altered and improved by the creation of public art. “Community feedback is vital to the process of installing murals,” he says. “Public forums such as this one are a perfect opportunity for the public to hear about upcoming projects and to talk to artists.”

Adae is the founder and director of Adae Fine Art Academy, an independent drawing and painting school for children, young adults, and adults in New Haven. In addition, as a New Haven-based visual and public artist, he has installed approximately 30 works of public art throughout Greater New Haven since 2014.
