Cappella Cantorum Masterworks Chorus Presents Its Spring Concert: The Peacemakers

Cappella Cantorum presents its Spring Concert at First Church of Christ in Saybrook, 366 Main Street, Old Saybrook on Sunday, April 21, 3 p.m., featuring The Peacemakers by Karl Jenkins, “dedicated to the memory of all those who lost their lives during armed conflict, in particular innocent civilians.”

The Masterworks Chorus and Cappella Orchestra will be conducted by Simon Holt, and as a special feature, the chorus will be joined by Select Singers, a youth choir from Lyme-Old Lyme High School, under Choral Director Kristine Pekar.

The Peacemakers include words of peace from iconic, world-changing figures such as Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and Martin Luther King, along with other inspirational quotations from Mother Teresa, Albert Schweitzer, Anne Frank, and the Dalai Lama. Also featured are religious texts from the Bible, the Qur’an, St Francis of Assisi and Bahá’u’lláh, and the poetry of Shelley, Malory, Terry Waite, and Carol Barratt. One line from the Persian mystic poet Rumi sums up the ethos of the work: ‘All religions, all singing one song: Peace be with you’.

Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door ($15 for students 18 & under; children under 6 attend free with an adult ticket purchase). They can be purchased on the website cappellacantorum.org, by calling 860-532-0454, or from any chorus member.

Established in 1970, Cappella Cantorum is a non-auditioned community choral group that provides singers of all ages the opportunity to learn, perform, and share choral music.
