From Comic Books To Art With A Narrative Element

City Life Paintings, Vincent Giarriano's 13th solo show of 30 new paintings, will remain on display through Saturday, Nov. 26 at Susan Powell Fine Art, 679 Boston Post Road, Madison. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Powell, the gallery owner, says that young children and junior high and high school students are always welcome, but particularly so to this exhibit.

“A young boy, around 9 years old, came in over the weekend and enjoyed seeing how Vince developed some of the studies in the show into larger paintings,” she says. “His parents were surprised that he had such a keen eye and started looking at the paintings through his eyes...it’s nice when this happens, as his enthusiasm was contagious.”

She says young people might enjoy this exhibit in particular because it features contemporary New York City life, showing real life moments in the lives of young women, most of whom are artists and designers who collaborate with the artist.

Powell says Giarriano developed his sense of narrative as a comic book artist. “This is an unusual show for Madison, so hopefully many people along the shoreline will see it,” she says.

Giarriano says his work “has a narrative element to it, there is a certain amount of mystery and history about each person and place. What I love about the City is that it is constantly changing, providing endless inspiration.”

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday form 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and anytime by appointment. For more information please call 203 318-0616 or email susanpowellfineart@gmail.com. The works also can be viewed online at susanpowellfineart.com.
