They’re Open!

Joel and Lani Gargano, who run the acclaimed Grano Arso restaurant in Chester, have opened their new mom and pop Italian eatery and market, Gargano Pasta & Italian Market, 75 Main Street, Old Saybrook. I’ve been twice and have come home with a big shopping bag full of goodies to cook with both times. I’ve not had a chance to stay for breakfast or lunch, but it looks like many are doing just that. It’s been called the Eataly of the Shoreline, but when I mentioned that to the manager Ed Jones III, he acknowledged the compliment and quickly went on to say they stock goods at a wide variety of price points and hope to be considered an affordable option as well. After going gangbusters the first few days after it opened, they closed for a few days to catch a breath, but plan to be open going forward Tuesday through Sunday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
