Free Admission At Wadsworth

The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, 600 Main Street, Hartford is free through Monday, Sept. 5 to Connecticut children and an accompanying adult as part of the CT Summer at the Museum initiative. Families can beat the heat at the Wadsworth thanks to support provided by a $15,000 grant from Connecticut Humanities.

A trip to the Wadsworth hosts Second Saturdays for Families, free family fun every second Saturday from noon to 2 p.m., including rtmaking activities, music, performances, and tours with a new theme each month.

Special exhibitions on view now include Hamilton: The Art of Remaking History which shows how art influenced the musical Hamilton and Naama Tsabar / MATRIX 189 which combines sculpture and sound in an installation of smashed electric guitars you can play.

Family Guides are available to help families explore works of art, including paintings by Salvador Dalí and Georgia O’Keeffe, and make connections between art and life. They are available in English and Spanish, in the galleries and online. Other features include a Cabinet of Art & Curiosity which can be opened and explored, coloring pages to help children find works of art, and outdoor sculptures including Alexander Calder’s Stegosaurus right next door.

A full list of participating CT Summer at the Museum locations across the state is available at ctsummermuseums.com.

Funding for the CT Summer at the Museum initiative is provided by the CT General Assembly, with the support of Connecticut Humanities and the Department of Economic and Community Development, Office of the Arts, which also receives support from the federal ARPA.
