Scarecrow FestiFall Coming Up in October

The Essex Board of Trade has scheduled its annual 2020 Scarecrow FestiFall on all beautiful fall days from Thursday, Oct. 8 to Thursday, Oct. 29. All visitors and residents can stroll past lamp-post presentations of scarecrows while also taking advantage of alfresco dining and shopping.
The Scarecrow Lamp-Post Presentation will be offered along the main streets of Essex, Centerbrook, and Ivoryton villages. Scarecrow viewers are encouraged to vote for their favorite. The first-place winner gets bragging rights, and will also receive an Experience Essex gift bag full of generously donated merchandise from Essex merchants.
Residents and visitors can vote for their favorite scarecrow via by texting the five-digit short code, ‘74574’ with their favorite scarecrow’s entry number (no spaces! Example: 745741, 745742, 745743, etc.) The short code and entry number will be labeled on each scarecrow. The limit is one entry per voter, per day.
Voting opens Oct. 8 and closes Oct. 29. The winner will be announced on Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31, at EssexCT.com
There also will be a scavenger hut at participating retailers along Main Street, Essex Village. A scavenger hunt map can be picked up at Olive Oyl’s Cuisine, 6 Main Street Essex. Maps will be available while supplies last.
All participating merchants and restaurants implement state of Connecticut and Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) guidelines. The Essex Board of Trade also requires event attendees to follow CDC protocol for social distancing and mask wearing.
