A Little Down South in Old Saybrook
At the Tea Kettle in Old Saybrook, chicken and waffles are offered with a side of maple butter and sprinkled with powdered sugar. (Photo courtesy of the Tea Kettle)
I had chicken and waffles for the first time while traveling once, and have been craving them ever since. They’re kind of (for me) complicated to make, and you don’t see them too often on menus around here, so I was happy to see this down-south staple pop up recently on the Facebook feed of the Tea Kettle, 1395 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook. Tea kettle is offering this “taste of the south” deep fried with maple mustard on a Belgian waffles, alongside maple butter and powdered sugar. It is a special, so if you have your heart set on this, call first at 860-577-5039 and make sure they are still on the menu.—Pem McNerney
