Still Here chronicles the life of the Broadway actress and singer Elaine Stritch, from her Catholic upbringing in Detroit through her one-woman show, Elaine Stritch at Liberty. In between, Stritch goes on a date with Marlon Brando, understudies Ethel Merman, and brings the house down as Joanne in Company, all the while carousing her way through Manhattan. Jacobs also sensitively explores the complexities of Stritch’s insecurities with men, her savage wit, her perfectionism, and her alcoholism.
