I have waited 20 years for this author’s second book. It did not disappoint. His style is a brilliant blend of empathy for his characters and bone-tingling chills. While reading, I built a mystical treehouse beside a gang of 7 year-old best friends. I ran along with a mother fighting for her son’s life and her own. I was charmed by the love an elderly man has for his brother who disappeared decades ago. Imaginary Friend is Stranger Things meets IT meets Stand By Me. It’s a perfect fall read. But, let’s face it, I will probably find an excuse to read it during other seasons as well.
