The coronavirus crisis has nearly halted the local economy — including media advertising. That means local, independent news organizations such as ours must fight for our own survival while continuing to provide critical news and information as a public service during this unprecedented situation. If you believe local reporting is important and you're able to lend support during this pandemic, click here for info on making a tax-deductible donation.

The 39th annual Branford Road Race takes place on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16 at the Branford Green.
Race organizers expect a crowd of more than 3,000 runners and walkers to take part in the 5-Mile Race, 2-Mile Health Walk and 1-Mile Kids Fun Run. The race kicks off on the final day of the Branford Festival, a community celebration that attracts thousands of people. The event is one of Connecticut’s top running events and one of the nation’s largest 5-mile races. Ray Figlewski, the co-founder, says he’s happy with the progress the race has made since its debut 39 years ago.
This year, all races have earlier start times. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the 1-Mile Kids Fun Run beginning at 9:10 a.m., the 2-Mile Health Walk at 9:40 a.m., and the 5-Mile Race at 9:45 a.m.
There will be live music and aid stations along all courses. All race participants receive tech shirts. After the races, participants get post-race brunch with a choice of a pancake breakfast, breakfast sandwich, or continental breakfast. Participants and spectators are invited to continue the Father’s Day celebration at the Stony Creek Brewery. Tickets for the Stony Creek Brewery Post-Race Celebration can be purchased online and include Stony Creek beer and pizza.
The official race charities include Connecticut Advocates for Parkinson’s (CAP), Camp Rising Sun, and Notre Dame High School. Participants who raise $200 or more for any of the three charities can receive a complimentary entry for the race of their choice. More information about that is available at branfordroadrace.net.
Sponsors of the 2019 Branford Road Race include H.D. Segur Insurance, Barnum Capital Management, Stony Creek Brewery, Tyco Print and Promo, Guilford Radiology, Medtronic, Connecticut Orthopeadic Specialists, Planet Fitness, Soundrunner, Notre Dame High School, Advanced Office Systems, Muscle and Joint Performance Chiropractic & Physical Therapy, Pasta Cosi, Zip06.com/The Sound, and 99.1PLR.
