Nibbles: New Haven
A good friend of mine grew up Italian in New Haven, and she suggested that five of us go to an old-fashioned, red-sauce restaurant in New Haven favored by her family. We went fairly early to Adriana’s and to say that this was phenomenal would be an understatement. I had bucatini alla matriciana (hollow-tubed pasta with pancetta, onions, basil, tomatoes, and pecorino Romano cheese), while others had eggplant, osso buco, seafood pasta, meatballs, and arancini, or rice balls. We received huge portions and everything was perfect. We passed on dessert there because Theresa said we also had to go to Libby’s. There we had gelato, ices, and more pastry than I knew even existed. I had an almond horn tipped in chocolate and a watermelon ice. Both are my favorites. But they have everything from butter cookies to biscotti to cannoli. We saw a Rolls Royce parked there and by the time we left, people were still coming. What a treat
