I stopped recently at my local supermarket and bought those wonderful grape tomatoes ($6 a box) and two medium-sized Ugly Ripe tomatoes (around $4 per pound). Tomatoes are my martinis, my red wine, my dark chocolate. But then, when I got home, I thought to call my local farmers markets. I called Whittles in Mystic, and Scott’s Yankee Farmer in East Lyme. Both had both. So, dear Stop & Shop, Big Y, and Shop-Rite, I haven’t betrayed you, but I won’t see you as often for my two-a-day tomato habit.
Most all the shoreline farm markets
Open daily for tomatoes and corn,
and pretty much everything else
that’s good and growing now
