After making his directorial debut with Ex Machina, Alex Garland makes his return to the sci-fi genre with Annihilation starring Natalie Portman, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Oscar Isaac.

Annihilation is based on a novel by Jeff VanderMeer about a group of four women who embark on an expedition into an environmental disaster zone cut off from civilization after the husband of one of the women, who previously ventured into that zone, disappears.

Other than that, there isn’t much known about the story and the trailer is very secretive, but that’s what makes the film more intriguing. Also, Ex Machina was a tremendous effort from Alex Garland and hopefully, his follow-up film will proves that it wasn’t just a one-off.

Annihilation comes out on Feb. 23, 2018.
