Deny the Request

We, the citizens, families, neighbors, and local property owners, oppose the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation’s (EHTF) plans to develop 6 Opening Hill Road.

The EHTF’s proposal for a non-residential multi-use complex is wholly unacceptable for this completely residential community. Their proposal includes multiple residences, both permanent and temporary, operating under bed and breakfast guidelines; a service kitchen and dining area, a retail store, an event venue, lighting; permanent and additional temporary event signage visible for four weeks at a time; expanded parking capacity; hosting events up to 150 people; and the right to change their usage annually.

The EHTF future plans include the construction of additional structures and possibly a new access road from Indigo Trail.

I believe these plans will adversely affect the neighboring families, their safety and serenity of the area, the property values, alter the existence of wildlife, and dangerously increase traffic (including shuttle buses) on an already narrow road.

The site is within 500 feet of an adjacent municipality, so the Town of Guilford has been notified, and the regional planning agency may require notification.

Let your feelings be known and demand the Madison Planning and Zoning Department deny the request for a Special Use Exception and maintain this residential community as residential.

Please show your support and follow our journey at #stopthetremainefoundation on Instagram. The posts on this account will objectively educate the public on the EHTF’s intentions to develop this historic home into a commercial property to finance their philanthropy.

If you haven’t already signed our petition, please message me at #stopthetremainefoundation and a copy will be made available for your signature. Should anyone have any immediate questions or wish to volunteer please let us know.
