Vote ‘Yes’

I want to voice my support for the Town of Guilford and Board of Education Budget and encourage community members to do the same. I believe our town and school leaders have created a budget that addresses the needs of all residents.

Our seniors have access to 3,500 meals from Meals on Wheels, 7,700 meals served at the Community Center, and over 6,500 miles of town transportation for grocery shopping, errands, and trips to the doctor’s office. These services are vital to many of us. The meal program is more than an opportunity for seniors to have an economical, nutritious hot meal; it is also a chance to socialize with others. Other social opportunities include special lunches with entertainment, including singers, magicians, speakers, and even karaoke. There are also several evening dinner dances, including the very popular May “Senior Prom” and monthly dinner and a movie.

Guilford Youth and Family Services requests remain high. We must continue to support the critical services provided by this agency.

Our public schools continue to be among the best in the state. Our students score high on the State Accountability Index and standardized tests. They excel in all academic areas in addition to the arts and athletics. The proposed education budget for 2024-’25 includes additional funding for athletics as expressed by the public, support for students’ social and emotional needs, and a continued commitment to professional learning communities for teachers with expanded support from instructional coaches to include math coaches in all schools.

The proposed education budget continues to provide safe and healthy learning environments where students can academically and socially thrive.

We must continue to come together as a community to support our town and our schools. I urge you to participate in this important budget referendum. Vote “Yes” on April 16.
