Deep Concern

This letter is out of deep concern for the current location of the proposed APT Foundation treatment clinic and healthcare facility at 439 Boston Post Road. We are not alone in this concern, as evidenced by the packed meeting room at the Guilford Community Center on Feb. 27, the hundreds of signatures garnered on the two petitions, and in speaking with our friends and neighbors, some of whom are business owners proximal to 439 Boston Post Road. We are not opposed to a treatment center, but we strongly believe that it would be better suited in an industrial area, as residents of New Haven and North Haven both felt it appropriate for APT Foundation centers in those towns.

No impact studies were conducted on the effect this treatment clinic will have on Guilford and the immediate area, including effects on business, crime, public safety, traffic, property values, tax base, police and fire response and budgets, or the effect on other communities where methadone treatment centers have been located. We can't believe no one thought this would be a controversial endeavor that would have zero potential negative impact. At the Feb. 27 meeting, Lynn Madden, CEO of APT Foundation, said she had not met with the Guilford Chief of Police.

APT's plans for the property adjacent to 439 Boston Post Road seem questionable. When asked at the Feb. 27 meeting why the two smaller properties were purchased, Madden's reply was for storage and their mobile unit (which APT does not have). I believe that was a disingenuous answer, in addition to stating that they did not know the status of the 439 Boston Post Road parcel at that time, which seems to have been their main interest all along.
