Questions Never Asked, Nor Answered

Recently, Tweed-New Haven Airport announced that it was getting a $2.5 million federal grant to go toward lengthening the runway and toward the new proposed terminal on the East Haven side.

We all know about the flooding issues at Hemingway Ave and Short Beach Road. On Jan. 14, 2015, it was announced that East Haven received $1.24 million in what was called the Sandy Grant, named after Superstorm Sandy. That money was earmarked to raise that intersection to eliminate the flooding. Work started, then stopped. Material stored on Short Beach Road was taken away. What happened to that money and material?

Now to the Elephant in the room. Proto Drive is to be used to get to the new terminal. Questions that were never asked nor answered: Who will pay for the upgrades this narrow road will need? Who will pay for the upgrades to utilities such as gas lines, water lines, storm, and sanitary sewer lines, etc., required to service the new terminal? Will widening the road require the taking of private property? If so, who will pay for that? All this will happen off Tweed property. How will the increase in traffic affect the businesses that use this road?

Maybe someday, those concerns, which directly affect the residents and taxpayers of East Haven, will be answered. Then again - maybe not.
