Where’s the Appeal?

The day before Christmas weekend, the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) announced they are allowing Tweed-New Haven Airport to expand without a more in-depth study of its impact.

Tweed and the City of New Haven believe they can use their political friendships within the state along with the FAA to conceal the burdens that are to be pushed onto the people of East Haven. Everything seems to be going according to plan for them. They broke a decade-long agreement with no action taken from the Town of East Haven or the State of Connecticut, and now they are getting away without having to conduct an Environmental Impact Study (EIS). This deprives us of a comprehensive understanding of how the expansion will affect our health, safety, and overall quality of life. That is unless Mayor Joseph Carfora and the Town of East Haven file an appeal to the FAA’s decision.

At the mayoral debate this past October, Carfora stated that if the FAA came back with a decision that did not require an EIS, he would appeal. It has been a month, and no appeal has yet been made. Is he going to follow through with what he said and fight to protect the residents of East Haven from the undue harm that is coming?

As the deadline for appeal approaches, we urgently request that Carfora announce his decision regarding the appeal. If he chooses not to appeal, Carfora should provide residents with timely notice so we can attempt to take this task on for ourselves.
