No Public Announcements

Does anyone know that the Guilford Planning and Zoning Commission (PZC) approved the site plan for an APT methadone clinic at 439 Boston Post Road (the former Play Café) at their meeting on Jan. 3? You couldn’t possibly know since there were no public announcements from the Town of Guilford regarding this methadone clinic, no public town meetings, no PZC hearings, no impact studies on the effect this clinic will have on property valves, safety, crime, commercial business, the environment, traffic, the tax base, or the police and fire budgets; and no background checks into APT Foundation or the experiences other communities have had with APT methadone clinics?

In a Guilford Courier article on Sept. 12, 2023 (“Addiction, Mental Health Facility to Open on Boston Post Road”), First Selectman Matt Hoey said, “he is proud that Guilford will be able to be the setting for locals who are in need of these specialize services … ‘This facility needs to go somewhere, and Guilford is a welcoming community.’” It was a glowing article about the APT Foundation but failed to mention that in 2017, APT had to repay $840,000 in overbilling to Connecticut Medicaid or how the residents of New Haven’s Newhallville neighborhood succeeded in preventing APT from opening a methadone clinic in their neighborhood because of their concerns regarding crime which resulted at the APT clinic in the Hill neighborhood in New Haven.

This Guilford clinic will be located only 470 feet from a daycare facility\ and 250 feet from the closest residence.

On Friday, Feb. 9, there will be a meeting in the Guilford Room at the Guilford Community Center, 32 Church St., at 6:30 p.m. to discuss this issue. For more information, please visit www.greatereducationcouncilofct.org.
