Vote Yes

Many Old Saybrook residents have been asking questions and voicing concerns about the police department. During the summer, Chief Michael Spera indicated the situation was urgent and proposed several solutions. On Monday, Jan. 22, we must vote on the one-question referendum to fund an independent organizational review of the O.S. Department of Police Services with an emphasis on recruitment and retention. With a “yes” vote, elected town leaders and taxpayers will get non-biased, fact-based answers to their questions and concerns.

As a former member of both the Board of Selectmen and Police Commission, I urge you to vote. The company selected to conduct the organizational review specializes in police departments nationally. They will ask difficult questions, review written materials, interview many individuals (including past and current employees), and then prepare a detailed report.

The Board of Selectmen, Board of Finance, and Police Commission have all approved this action with bipartisan support. Now is the time for all voters to decide! The referendum will be held at Old Saybrook High School from noon to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 22.

Join me in voting “yes.”
