Can’t There Be a Better Way?

If there was a winner of which party had the most plastic lawn signs this election period, anyone who went to vote at the Clinton Town Hall or drove by could see that the Republicans handily won. When asked, “Where do all these plastic signs go after the election is over?" there was often a puzzled look on the faces of the people running for office on both sides. They can’t be used again, and I doubt they will be kept as souvenirs by the electorate. I would vote that they wind up in landfills or incinerators across the state and contribute to the pollution that is burying us all in plastic.

Can’t there be a better way? Couldn’t we have an agreement by all parties running that they will each have two large signs informing the electorate who is running for office placed on Main Street and Route 81? Why must there be so much signage? If that is the only thing that influences people to vote for someone, then we are in big trouble. I believe that most people get their information from other sources and that they usually have their minds made up by the time they go to vote. If these signs influence people’s decisions so effectively, then why did the Republicans lose so many of the races in Clinton?

I’ve been told by more than a few people that all these signs just depress and irritate them and help keep the large divide between the parties going.

Enough plastic, please. We need to protect our environment and stop the plastic madness that is lawn signs.
