The Go-To Person

This letter is written to express my unequivocal support for Carol Jones for first selectman in the Town of Deep River. Deep River is poised to reestablish herself as the Queen of the Valley, and Carol has been here working tirelessly for over 20 years with and through two administrations.

Carol has been the go-to person if we needed something done. My predecessor, Dick Smith, called on Carol again and again, first to step up and become director of Parks and Recreation, then to run payroll, then to manage the renovated Town Hall Auditorium. The list goes on and on. When I asked her to help establish the Deep River SustainableCT Committee, she agreed and became chair. When we asked how we might expand our holiday celebration, she established our light parade to go hand in hand with our Holiday Stroll. When the Town needed to pick up and continue Deep River Day, who do you think we called? Carol Jones.

I witnessed Carol at 4:30 a.m. setting up for the fishing derby and worked with her at 10:30 p.m. cleaning up after the Deep River Day fireworks. She has managed the Parks and Recreation budget, recruited a staff of young people to run one of the best summer camps in the region, and established a regional basketball program allowing for young people to be active through the winter. Carol is continuously bringing ideas and programs to me to try and enhance the accessibility of our parks and to address the expanding diversity of our community.

There is no one in Deep River better poised to take over the role of first selectman and continue to build upon the progress we have made. I encourage all voters to vote for Carol Jones for first selectman of Deep River.
