Numbers Don’t Lie

The numbers don’t lie. Deep River has thrived under Democratic leadership. In the last eight years, the Board of Selectmen and Board of Finance have increased the town’s reserve funds from $250,000 to $2 million. At the same time, our mill rate has only increased a single point in the same eight years. Fiscally responsible budget planning has allowed us to grow our reserve funds while keeping our mill rate stable. A robust reserve fund allows us to access matching grants and competitive grants that reimburse our payments for major town improvements. A larger reserve fund gives us access to larger opportunities. As a result, the town has been able to improve its infrastructure and make the town buildings more energy efficient, which provides a long-term cost benefit to our residents.

Carol Jones is running for First Selectwoman with more than 20 years of experience volunteering and working for the town. She has the institutional knowledge and the practical skills to carry on the progress that Dick Smith and Angus McDonald set in motion. She has worked to support the needs of so many residents already, from the very young to the elderly. She knows our town inside and out, and she’s not afraid to keep learning and improving – that’s the hallmark of a good leader. Someone who can represent the interests of all of their constituents, someone who is willing to ask questions and take questions, and someone who can get the job done.

I encourage you to Vote Blue this Tuesday, Nov. 7. Let’s keep Deep River moving forward.
