A Candidate to Be Proud of

We are writing to support Seth Klaskin’s candidacy for Board of Education (BOE). Over the past decade, we have grown close with the Klaskins and have had an inside view into the hard work and dedication Seth puts into his role as the chair of the BOE.

Seth served for 12 years on the BOE between 2007 and 2019. To fill a vacated seat at a time that was very challenging for educational leaders, The Madison Democrats appointed him back onto the BOE. As soon as he returned in November of 2021, he was elected board chair. Seth has led the BOE with a steady hand, successfully navigating the schools through the tail end of the pandemic. He ensured that all constituents who showed up in droves to the public meetings were heard on both sides of the masking debate. Ultimately, the board planned with Madison Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Craig Cooke to be one of the first districts to eliminate mandatory masking while also promoting a school culture that was respectful of those needing/preferring to continue to mask.

When facing challenges, Seth compartmentalizes and places each problem into its properly sized box. This helps project calm so the board can attend to its responsibilities. Seth also promotes a nonpartisan, collegial atmosphere that allows the board to do its best work, supporting a district on the rise into rarified air in the state.

As a family that has been tied to Madison’s sports community forever, we are so thrilled to see that the work of the board has helped support a return to sportsmanship in our schools. The MPS recently reclaimed the CIAC Michaels Cup for Sportsmanship while maintaining our winning ways.

Seth is a BOE member we can all be proud of. Let’s support his reelection to this board.
