Too Important Not To

Over the years, legislative Democrats submitted bills to create a statewide property tax, force costly zoning mandates on our town, and require immense school regionalization. In addition, a bill was passed this year that would look into making taxpayers in towns with well-ranked school districts pay more, essentially punishing success and punishing places like Old Saybrook. I voted no, and our Republican First Selectman, Carl Fortuna, was in opposition as well.

In the upcoming election, I only trust one slate of candidates to work with me to combat these types of state government overreach and taxes. The Republican slate has the experience and knowledge we need to support our community and its values. For the Board of Finance, Tom Stevenson, Rick Swan, and Eric Dussault will continue to ensure responsible spending and that our property taxes remain some of the lowest in the state. For the Board of Education, Karina Julius, Alan Hyla, Kelley Kennedy, and Jim Henderson will continue to focus on supporting our local teachers and ensuring our students get the best education possible and graduate with the skills they need to compete. Our planning candidates (Nick Prevost, Doug McCracken, Jonathan Miles) and zoning candidates (Mark Caldarella, John Henry) will focus on what’s best for Old Saybrook residents and will not roll over to partisan state government demands.

Just like many of you, my family moved to Old Saybrook because of the great schools, low taxes, environmental beauty, local character, and welcoming atmosphere - it is vital we protect that. As your State Representative, I ask that you support these candidates and the entire Republican slate on Tuesday, Nov. 7; our town’s future and its autonomy are too important not to.
