Inclusive, Welcoming, and Dedicated to Helping Others

New candidates for municipal government possess the multifaceted skill set that distinguishes Laura Gray, who is running for the Old Saybrook Zoning Commission.

Likable and receptive, Laura is a consummate professional. She began her work life as a chemistry teacher, then went on to build a successful biotech sales career. In the process, she has honed her research, listening, and collaboration skills to a high level of expertise. Success in her job requires her to listen carefully, do her homework, and collaborate with various constituencies to create viable, win-win solutions. These are precisely the skills needed by members of the Zoning Board, who must work as a team to fairly, accurately, and wisely apply land use regulations.

As a zoning commissioner, Laura would balance the rights of individuals with the public health, safety, and welfare of our town as a whole. She would support sustainable, smart growth to include win-win development while preserving historic structures and the sense of place unique to Old Saybrook.

Laura’s love for Old Saybrook is evident in the fascinating posts she creates for her popular Facebook group, Historic Saybrook, as well as in her current service on the Inland Wetland and Watercourses Commission, Historic District Commission, and executive committee of the Old Saybrook Democratic Town Committee. Laura exemplifies commitment to balancing the built environment with environmental concerns on her own property, a historic home with native gardens that she and her husband David have spent decades restoring.

Laura is inclusive, welcoming, and dedicated to helping others. She is genuinely interested in improving the lives of people from all walks of life. She believes that the consideration of many viewpoints is essential to building just and satisfying community outcomes. I invite you to join me in voting for Laura Gray for the Zoning Commission.
