Just Getting Started

When Peggy Lyons was running for a second term as first selectman in 2021, a podcast host described her as a “superhero.” Two years later, as we look back on Peggy’s accomplishments, that may have been an underestimation of her talents and accomplishments. Peggy ran for first selectman in large part to free Madison of the “procrastination and stagnation” that had rendered the town unable to move forward on so many critical initiatives. She has succeeded beyond all expectations.

Peggy has brought to her position exactly the set of skills that Madison needs. She has an extensive background in finance, strategic planning, and management. She is outcome-driven, but she is also a collaborative and inclusive leader. She has been totally invested in Madison as a parent, volunteer, and elected official since moving here in 2007.

Peggy has provided strong and compassionate leadership through hurricanes, power outages, and the pandemic. At the same time, she kept her focus on addressing the decades of neglect of our infrastructure and Madison’s two crown jewels: our schools and our natural environment, especially our beaches.

Peggy’s record of accomplishment speaks for itself: completion of the endless downtown revitalization; preservation and conversion of Academy School; approval of the comprehensive school renewal plan; the sale of Island Avenue School; an updated town charter and an ethics ordinance; a new emergency shelter and upgraded emergency preparedness systems; unprecedented state and federal grant funding; responsible budgets and a premier credit rating; numerous infrastructure improvements; strategic planning and major climate initiatives, including a coastal resiliency fund. And the list goes on.

It is clear that this dynamic leader is just getting started. She has earned another term, and Madison cannot afford to lose her many talents. Please join me in voting for Peggy on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
