A Neighbor We Can Trust

Al Goldberg, candidate for reelection to the Madison Board of Selectmen, has asked thousands of Madison residents the same questions. For new residents, “What brought you to Madison? What did you see in the town that’s important to you?” For long-term residents, “What do you like best about Madison? What could be better?”

Al is a great listener and, in 16 years as a selectman, has assembled an incredible mental database of what’s needed to maintain our town’s exceptional quality of life and the shared values that enable collaboration and progress.

He acts on that information. The Senior Center, Salt Meadow Park, our beautiful conservation lands, our beaches, our much-needed school revitalization, and Academy Community Center are direct results of Al’s hard work and willingness to compromise and cooperate across Boards and parties. Al’s big-picture thinking on preserving our quality of life is matched by his knowledge of town government learned through decades of service.

One day, I had a meeting with Al at Town Hall and found him sorting one by one through a very large stack of papers. “These are all the checks that will go out from the Town of Madison this week and the backup documents,” he explained. “I like to look them over. They are almost all routine, but occasionally I feel the need to go over to the relevant town department and ask, ‘So what’s this one all about?’” Al knows every nook and cranny in the operations of Town Hall.

Experience, wisdom, and his essential graciousness are why I am honored to endorse Al Goldberg for reelection as a Madison Selectman. Fifty years as a Madison resident and 16 years as a Selectman truly make Al a name we know and a neighbor we can trust.
