Better When We Work Together

My name is Laura Gray, and I am running for a seat on the Zoning Commission. The Zoning Commission regulates land use and enforces its regulations for the protection of public health, safety, and welfare. The commission works with the Architectural Review Board to consider the aesthetics of proposals for development.

My husband, children, and I have lived in Old Saybrook for 28 years.

Professionally, I have had an exciting career in scientific sales, supporting research and drug development in New England. My expertise is in introducing innovative technologies to medical schools and biopharmaceutical companies.

Most people know me as the writer/admin of “Historic Saybrook, CT,” a Facebook group that has grown to over 4,000 members in four years. The goals of the group have been to educate, to create awareness of and pride in our history, to help save historic structures, and to bring the community together. I am told it’s the best group on Facebook!

I currently serve on two other town commissions and am the Vice Chair of the Old Saybrook Democratic Town Committee.

I am ready to work on several challenges facing Old Saybrook: lack of affordable housing, adaptation to the effects of climate change, wastewater management, protection of historic structures, and maintaining our small-town personality by applying the principles of smart growth. I will strongly advocate for the implementation of the strategies presented in the 2018 Community Coastal Resilience Study and Infrastructure Evaluation for Old Saybrook.

I believe Old Saybrook is better when we work together. I welcome constructive dialog and discussion from all residents.

Please vote for me, a Democratic candidate for the Zoning Commission, where I can help enhance what makes Old Saybrook great as we prepare for the future. Thank you!

Laura Gray
