Continue to Make Positive Change

I’m Matt Pugliese, and I am the Democratic candidate running for re-election to the Board of Selectman. It has been my honor to serve the town over the last four years on the board. Prior to my time on the board, I was the chairman of the Economic Development Commission. My full-time job is working as the executive director of community development for the State Department of Economic and Community Development. Prior to this, I provided consulting services to small businesses with the CT Small Business Development Center. I have over 15 years of experience working in executive roles in the non-profit and public sectors, managing budgets, driving revenue growth, and identifying and administering government grants.

I have been involved in union negotiation teams for labor contracts and supervising personnel in complex union environments. I have been a balanced, inclusive voice on the Board of Selectman during my two terms. Examples of effective initiatives I led are advocating for funding for Old Saybrook Youth and Family to provide English translation services for families in our town, supporting an open, public-led process for the distribution of the town ARPA funding, increasing investment in our park and recreation facilities and for championing our recent successful gun-giveback program.

Our community’s economic development and smart growth are critical over the next several years. This includes strategies for developing new productive properties for our tax base, affordable housing for all, appropriate wastewater infrastructure solutions, and climate resiliency. With my broad professional and volunteer experience, I bring unique value in my service to the board and town. In November, I ask for your vote and support so I can continue to make positive change in this town I love.
