Will Continue the Progress

As a Deep River resident, I am voting for Carole Jones for first selectman and the incumbent Duane Gates for selectman. Carol and Duane have combined 50 years of proven experience and leadership serving Deep River. They each have worked in various positions for the town and are committed to moving Deep River forward.

Progressive environmental policies that protect our natural resources are important for our town which is located on the Connecticut River. Carole and Duane are leaders in implementing fiscally responsible and effective environmental programs. Deep River has earned Bronze Level Certification under the state’s Sustainable CT initiative. Our Food Scrap Program is a success and is projected to reduce waste tipping fees by $30,000 this year alone. Deep River entered a long-term lease to install solar panels at the Transfer Station. This income-generating lease will add $43,000 per year for 20 years ($860,000 total) to the town budget at no cost to residents. The solar panels will add clean, renewable energy to the regional power grid. Under Carol and Duane’s leadership, Deep River has several ongoing and new initiatives to safeguard our environment.

I strongly believe Carol and Duane will continue the progress made under Democratic leadership to protect our environment, maximize opportunities for Deep River, and implement policies to benefit all residents. We need proven leaders who will work in a collaborative, nonpartisan manner on the important issues. I respectfully urge all Deep River residents to vote for Carole Jones for first selectman and Duane Gates for selectman on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
