09/27/2023 08:00 AMMy name is Rob LeMire, and I am running to become a member of the Parks and Recreation Commission. My wife Emily and I moved back to my hometown of Old Saybrook in 2018 to provide our four children the opportunity to enjoy the same incredible experiences I had growing up.
I am an avid outdoor enthusiast. Growing up in Old Saybrook, fishing, boating, and hiking consumed most of my summers. After graduating high school and leaving Old Saybrook, I began rock climbing. It became a huge passion that I still enjoy today, 30 years later. Most recently, I’ve taken up disc golf. I found the sport through my time as a Cub Master when I needed an outdoor sport for the scouts who had less interest in traditional sports due to a lack of self-confidence in their physical capabilities. Much like ball golf, disc golf does not discriminate by age, weight, height, strength, or agility. It’s all about proper technique, form, and timing. Connecticut’s top 10 rated disc golfers include a 15-year-old and a 50-year-old! I fell in love with the game six years ago and wanted to grow the sport. For the last four and a half years, I’ve been volunteering to design and build disc golf facilities for towns. To date, I’ve completed courses in Killingworth, Salem, and most recently in Old Saybrook at the course called Cedar Swamp at Town Park.
I’m driven and very passionate about outdoor recreation. I hope to help make a positive difference in Old Saybrook’s recreational activities for all ages. I love Old Saybrook, and if elected, I promise to use my devotion to seek innovative, inclusive recreational activities and programs. Please vote Rob LeMire, Democratic candidate for Parks and Recreation Commission.
