Take a More Critical Look

I twice read the story "CEC: Branford Grid Edge Customers Eligible for Energy Storage Program Savings" (Aug. 24) and really didn't come away with much useful information. The reporting seemed to be a composite of press releases and did not explain the basics. What is an Energy Storage Program? How much does one cost? Are total incentives of $7,500 beneficial to the consumer? How many Branford properties have installed this since the program started in January 2022? What are the actual savings achieved?

My research, including, but not limited to https://energynews.us/2022/02/04/4-things-to-know-about-connecticuts-new-energy-storage-incentive-program, indicates that I would need to install a new solar collection system (approximately $15,000) and that my "excess" stored energy could be used by Eversource for which I would somehow be reimbursed. But I can opt to have Eversource not use my energy if I expect a power outage. Who can really predict when a power outage will occur?

The Sound should take a more critical look at State-touted programs and better explain the cost/benefit to consumers.
