A Strong Advocate

My name is Earl Swain, and I’m a candidate for the Board of Education (BOE) in Old Saybrook. A lifelong resident, I graduated from Old Saybrook High School, as did my two oldest children. My next oldest son just started his junior year. My three younger boys are all enrolled at the middle school. If that sounds like a lot of kids, it sure is: I’m a single father currently raising four boys aged 10 to 16. This means I have more skin in the game than most when it comes to the BOE’s decision-making and the future of our schools going forward.

For the past 10 years, when I was not attending chorus concerts, play rehearsals, driving my kids to appointments, or serving as CEO of my household (our little dog, Scarlett, included), I worked as a chef at Cloud Nine Catering.

I know how to lead teams and bring the execution of projects from concept to completion—no matter how hot the kitchen gets. To say that I am an expert multitasker is an understatement.

Over the years, I’ve formed bonds with many of our teachers and administrators. I have great respect for all who have dedicated their lives to the education and care of our children.

As a member of the BOE, I would be a strong advocate for both our teachers and our children. In fact, I would bundle all of my qualifications under a general header of “Protector”—especially of our fine educators’ ability to teach a curriculum that enlightens and inspires our kids to become modern thinkers and active citizens.

Please vote for me, Earl Swain, Democratic candidate for the Board of Education.
