Keep the Consistent Factor

Recently a letter to the editor suggested voting for one particular party across the entire row ("Vote Row A," Aug. 10). This old-fashioned way of doing things is not the way to go in small-town elections. Four years ago, Chris Aniskovich, Carol Walters, and I ran for office on a policy of putting people first, not a political party.

Chris, Carol, and I have worked with individuals during two different administrations from the Green Party as well as the Democratic. We have always put all the people of Clinton ahead of party politics in our decision-making.

As an example, just a few weeks ago, an opening occurred on a commission. Two individuals applied, one a Green Party and one a Republican. After some deliberations, we chose the Green Party individual. Why? Because he had a little more experience and qualifications.

During our four-year period, I believe the council has appointed more unaffiliated Green Party and, yes, Democrats to boards, committees, and commissions than any other administration in Clinton's history. We do this because it gives Clinton the best government a small town deserves.

In summary, you don't vote to change political parties just for the sake of change; you vote for change when something is broken or wrong with the way the town is heading. Right now, I truly believe you, the residents, know that things are going pretty well, with four years of no mil rate increases, improving our town services and infrastructure, and responsible spending. Keep the one constant, consistent factor in our government, vote for Chris Aniskovich, Carol Walter, and Dennis Donovan for Town Council.
