Insulting and Inaccurate

I feel it necessary to remind the current Planning and Zoning Commission (PZC) that the West End Planning Committee was assembled at the behest of the PZC at the time. We met in Town Hall South with former Town Planner George Kral, Environmental Planner Kevin Magee, and former Director of Economic Development Brian McGlone as regular attendees. Of the 10 committee members, I believe I was the only area resident who was not a business owner or did not also serve on a town commission or committee. We were endeavoring and encouraged to keep the “Welcome to Guilford, an agricultural town” spirit which greets people (or used to) on signage as they enter town from the west. The Tractor Supply and the garden center, as well as maintenance of the Sullivan Farm house, were to that goal. The MUC 1 tract was on large but somewhat fragile land and would have certain types of use that would honor that type of environment yet allow for development. For the many months of effort to honor our assignment, to be categorized as a handful of hyper-local residents with a NIMBY motive is insulting and inaccurate.
