Congratulations for a Successful Sale

Congratulations to the Friends of the James Blackstone Memorial Library, who just held a successful Spring Sale of gently-used books. They raised over $3,700 in two days, which will help fund special programs and projects at the Blackstone Library.

The Blackstone is an association library, and we must fundraise a portion of our budget (the Town of Branford generously funds the majority of our operating budget). The Friends of the Library is a separate non-profit organization whose mission includes raising money to enhance and enrich the library’s offerings.

Proceeds from the Friends activities help provide funds for special programs for all ages, furniture, tech equipment, and special collections, including Friends Quick Picks, lawn games, and 3D printers. They also help support the Summer Reading program, discounted museum passes, and streaming services, which offer e-books, audiobooks, TV shows, and movies.

The Friends are volunteer-led, with individuals dedicating many hours throughout the year to sorting books, processing online orders, transporting books for in-person sales, and so much more. Their efforts are so appreciated by the staff at the library and countless others who benefit from the programs and projects their efforts help fund. New volunteers are always welcome!

Please join me in congratulating the Friends on their continued book sale success and thank them for all of their hard work. Their sights are now set on the highly anticipated Fall Book Sale on the Green, happening Sept. 14 to 17. You can help support the Friends by becoming a member or renewing your membership, and you can help raise the tent by making a donation or becoming a sponsor. More information is at our website at blackstonelibrary.org, or connect with them on Facebook.
