Thank You, Teachers

As a veteran teacher of 16 years, I want to send my heartfelt gratitude to the Guilford Public School teachers (and all teachers) in our community as they tirelessly and gracefully approach the end of the year. On behalf of our town, know that we recognize the impactful work you choose to do each day, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

At a recent informance my kindergartner participated in at Guilford Lakes Elementary School, I saw firsthand the impressive academic and intra- and inter-personal skills these little ones have learned this year as they begin their paths toward community belonging and adulthood. The book my son created and read to me about his own “growing up” and the masterfully-coordinated music routine he participated in were proof enough of the capacity and love our teachers show up with each day.

I have seen and know well the struggle of the educators who care, and during this time of teacher appreciation, I want to publicly recognize the multifaceted, ever-changing, and always-present-to-some-degree daily uphill climb our teachers willingly undertake in service of our children and, in turn, our community. Regardless of the brave new world we’re headed toward, central to it will always be the teachers who help equip the next generation with the necessary social, emotional, and academic skills they need to face themselves, one another, and new challenges with an understanding of their potential and the potential of our community, whatever it may look like. To all the teachers who choose to remember this each day in face of the struggle, we see you and know how essential you are to the foundation of our communities. Thank you.

With appreciation, partnership, and love (and a six-week summer countdown!),
